Yoga for Easing Menopausal Symptoms

22-04-2025
Menopause Yoga uses mindful movement, breathing, and relaxation to ease symptoms like stress, sleep issues, aches, and mood swings. Suitable for all fitness levels, it supports emotional well-being, strength, and self-confidence.

Introduction

Yoga can be a powerful tool to manage menopausal symptoms. Through gentle movement, breathing, and relaxation techniques, Menopause Yoga helps reduce stress, improve strength, and support emotional well-being during this life transition

Yoga has helped many people going through the hormonal changes associated with the peri-menopause, the menopause, and the post-menopausal years.
Through the practice of gentle and controlled movement, we can help with the management of aches and pains, by improving muscle strength (also helping to maintain bone health), as well as improve physical flexibility.
Many women in this period of life find they gain weight and may strive with over-exerting themselves in a bid to lose the weight. This may be counter-productive as it will increase the levels of stress hormones, which may cause an increase in menopausal symptoms such as:
• Sleep issues.
• Aches and pains.
• Mood swings.
• Hot flushes

In Menopause yoga we aim to use Mindful movements to help reduce stress from the mind and body, which may influence the nervous system and help us be in the best mental and emotional space at a time when life can be particularly stressful, in the home and the workplace.
Post-menopausal women are at greater risk of cardio-vascular disorders, and the movements combined with Mindfulness practices and special breathing practices can play a role in reducing blood pressure and general stress.
Through the use of visualisation practices, women often re-gain the self-confidence which can be lost at this time of change. As we feel better, we look better too.
Yoga promotes proper relaxation – very different to watching T.V with a glass of wine, and this can assist in sleeping better, happier moods and emotional well-being.
You don’t need to be fit, bendy or slim to practice. As a Menopause Yoga accredited teacher, I adapt the poses to suit your needs – you don’t even need to be able to get on the floor as I modify much of the class to be taken from a chair.

Why not join me for a pre-recorded video and see what you think?  Wear comfortable clothing, have a glass of water to hand, bring a cushion and blanket for your comfort, and bring an open mind!
